Housekeeping!!

Just want to remind everyone of a couple of things.

Please, please, please……if you need to cancel your appointment, please do within a timely manner. I do ask that you give at least 24 hours to cancel your appointment if you need to cancel or reschedule. This is just a courtesy to me and other people that may be looking to get in. A no show fee will apply to any and all missed appointment in the amount of your appointment.

Email reminders do go out at 24 hours before your appointment, so please pay attention to them so you come at the right time (incase you wrote it down wrong or I accidently put it in the computer wrong….. we are all human so these things do happen)

Also, if you are new, please come 10-15 minutes early to fill out any paperwork that may need to be filled out. This allows me to do any assessments that may need to be done and also go over your health history with you to make sure everything is correct.

See you all soon!

Standards of Practice

College of Massage Therapists of Ontario Standards of Practice.

What are Standards of Practice?

The College of Massage Therapists of Ontario has developed the Standards of Practice for Massage Therapists. Through the development and use of these Standards the College of Massage Therapists continues to display its commitment to the protection of the public, serving its members, and promoting the highest possible quality of massage therapy practice in a safe and ethical manner.

The Standards of Practice are intended to be generic and have been developed to describe the outcomes of the various tasks the therapist is required to perform within the Scope of Practice. The Standards of Practice describe how well a therapist is expected to perform. How to do each task will be determined by the curriculum developed by the educational programs.

The Standards of Practice form a live and dynamic document that will evolve as changes in practice evolve.

How Can Massage Be Medically Beneficial?

Massage Therapy helps you relax, re-align and rejuvenate. There are many positive aspects to receiving Massage Therapy on an ongoing basis, and with the busy lives we lead, we can all benefit from a little stress-management. Registered Massage Therapists can provide exceptional care and will design an effective customized massage treatment to address your individual needs.

More Canadians are turning to therapeutic massage treatment to provide relaxation, relieve tension associated with the daily stresses of their busy lives, or simply to help maintain good health and achieve a balanced lifestyle.

Oh, and let’s not forget how great it feels to be treated by a Registered Massage Therapist.

There are so many healthy benefits to receiving Massage Therapy on a regular basis:

  • Relieves stress
  • Encourages relaxation
  • Improves posture
  • May lower blood pressure
  • Improves circulation
  • Helps manages pain naturally
  • Decreases muscle pain
  • Helps improves flexibility and ranges of motion

  • Eases pregnancy aches and pains
  • Improves rehabilitation after injury

Massage Therapy in Ontario is a growing profession, that is part of the health care team, providing primary care to clients and to the general population concerned with maintaining and enhancing health and well being. Massage therapists use Swedish massage techniques and additional forms of soft tissue manipulation and joint mobilisations as a complement to existing courses of medical treatment or as an exclusive treatment programme.

Massage Therapists treat many conditions such as muscular “weakness” and “wasting” arising from disease, injury or immobility resulting from:

  • Sprains and strains
  • Fractures
  • Trauma (i.e., motor vehicle accidents)
  • Sports/athletic injuries
  • Tendonitis
  • Muscle spasms or spasticity
  • Post operative care and rehabilitation

Massage therapists also treat chronic conditions resulting in musculo-skeletal involvement.

For example:

  • Muscular tension headaches
  • Chronic nonspecific low back pain
  • “Stress” syndromes
  • Chronic pain syndromes
  • Muscular pain involvement in arthritis
  • Muscular tension of the jaw, face and neck

About

After being a Pharmacy Technician for many years, I decided that I wanted to do something different and be able to help people on a different level. Finding that Massage Therapy helped so much with my own injuries after a car accident, I knew what I wanted to do. Then not even a week later, I received a flyer in the mail for Trillium College and the first thing I seen was Massage Therapy right on the top. I called to book my appointment to check out the school and signed up the very next day.

Now, since being Registered since 2012, I have taken many courses to help round out my practice. I am certified in Deep Tissue Massage, PreNatal Massage, Indie Head Massage, Hot Stone Massage, Reflexology, Cupping and MyoFascial Release……. just to name a few.

When I’m not massaging clients, I’m usually helping my husband with our bee apiary, doing crafts or with my family.

What is Indie Head Massage?

Benefits:

  • Relieves stress, and promotes deep relaxation and well-being

The treatment includes the addition of warmed oil to your entire scalp to nourish and moisturize your hair. Your hair will get oily so bring a hat or hair tie for the trip home!

Cupping

Cupping Therapy is an ancient Chinese form of alternative medicine in which a local suction is created on the skin. This increases blood flow in order to promote healing from tight muscles.

The modern form of cupping is with a pump that creates a vacuum inside of it. Cupping therapy can reduce pain and inflammation throughout the body. It can also promote mental and physical relaxation and well-being.

*Please note that possible suction marks may occur and be left on the skin for up to a week.

Reflexology

What Is It?

Reflexology is a focused pressure technique, usually applied at the feet or hands. It is based on the premise that there are zones and reflexes on different parts of the body which correspond to all systems, glands, and organs of the entire body.

How Does It Work?

When the reflexes are stimulated the body’s natural electrical energy works along the nervous system to clear any blockages in the corresponding zones. A reflexology session breaks up deposits which may interfere with this natural flow of the body’s energy.

Manipulating specific reflexes removes stress, which activates a response in the body enabling stress and natural chemicals to be released by a physiological change in the body.

Benefits of Reflexology

– Relaxation with the removal of stress

– Enhanced circulation

– Assists the body to normalize metabolism naturally

– Complements all other healing modalities

Reiki

Reiki is an energy healing technique that promotes relaxation, reduces stress and anxiety through gentle touch. Reiki practitioners use their hands to deliver energy to your body, improving the flow and balance of your energy to support healing.

Mikao Usui developed reiki in the early 1900s, deriving the term from the Japanese words rei, meaning “universal,” and ki, which refers to the vital life force energy that flows through all living things. Now, reiki is used all over the world, including in hospitals and hospices, to complement other forms of health treatments.

Reiki promotes relaxation, stress reduction and symptom relief to improve overall health and well-being. It can:

  • Bring on a meditative state.
  • Foster tissue and bone healing after injury or surgery.
  • Stimulate your body’s immune system.
  • Promote natural self-healing.
  • Relieve pain and tension.
  • Support the well-being of people receiving traditional medical treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation, surgery and kidney dialysis.

Studies show that reiki treatment may create feelings of:

  • Peace.
  • Relaxation.
  • Security.
  • Wellness.
